Rifle firing speeds
« on: June 12, 2011, 04:08:24 am »
I noticed a big change in gpp about firing speeds. The healing rate of medkits, medistats, aliens, firing speeds etc. has all been adjusted to ur fps rate. In windows, i had a steady fps rate of about 30-60, and my healing rate on a medistat was about 2/3s of the normal speed in 1.1. But i didn't care about that because i usually not kill from the medistat anyways.

I used to play trem gpp on a windows, which fired the fifle just a little bit faster than a lasgun, about 6 and a half bullets per second. It was REALLY easy to gun down dretches with that. Not i have a mac, i installed gpp n it and the rifle returned to the normal firing speeds of 1.1.
Also, the chaingun was easy to shoot with with 6 and a half bullets per second (it was the same, low fps but oh well)
but then i realised why it was easy to kill: the bullet damage raised from 6 to 12. No wonder why it is soo overpowered.

I was thinking of making the chaingun not adjust to ur fps, and fire 12 bullets a second instead of 10/11 or whatever and make the damage 9 and same goes for turrets. You really haven't sped up the rets, but instead change the damage from 4 to 12.

If this is possible without changing the server default fps rate from 20 to 30 or something, can we do this?

Also, i was hoping an option in the main menu to have a 'toggle' on about firing speeds adjusting to clients and the server.

Another toggle is to give back the old marauder maneuverings. It kinda annoys me because i can't go fast in bendy hallways, because the air velocity stays the same wereas the 1.1 marauder depends on the walls and its current velocity to increase speed.

I don't think that the firing rate is effected by your framerate. The sound might, if you are using EVERYTHING to show the 3D objects and overexerting your CPU.

If the servers FPS is less than 20 then AFAIK that can cause issues, but in that case you'd have bigger problems.

that should avoid confusions

I'm pretty damn sure that chaingun only does 6 damage per hit... And MGturrets do 4...or was it 8? Nah I think it's 4.

but a small twisty barrel will have small pew pew's, and small pew pew's can hurt mr.tyrant.

This guy's just spewing bullshit really. The one thing this reminds me of is the supposed "turrets shoot slower at the lower playerlist slot numbers" thing.

This is just a terribad player thinking he knows what's going on though. Chaingun does 6 per shot, turrets do 8.

reduce fire interval and increase the damage would be useful for ammunition to be more durable(I think), good for slow systems, and for humans.
small change please, because i hate wolfet's fire interval in autos(high fire interval)

I once read a topic about another game made on Quake 3 engine.

Hey all,
I was changing some settings in my cfg and found a very interesting thing.
I always use fullscreen resolution (1280x720), I was trying to improve my fps than I changed my resolution to 1024x768 ( It seems to be in widescreen in my monitor)  for my surprise the game becamed a lot more faster like:
Enemy Bodies with no Delay ( I'm high pinger )
Faster Aim
Faster Shooting ( No Scripts )
Faster Texture Loadings and Reading.
----
I don't know if this happen only because i'm in high ping and with fixed 80 fps but it possible to me to do 3 killing rows of 4 and a stats of 22/9 in heros today.

There is a known, uh, condition for Quake3 engine, if you're fps is consistent enough, the game runs 'smoother.'  Definitely noticeable when you can run 125 fps vs 60.  Dropping the resolution can give you fps boosts if your machine is a little older.

I can aprove this. I was playing with my brother one day, and he had rather faster computer, basically, he was just sprayin' bullets, while my rifle was almost equal to a frickin' musket on my old computer. It's a rather big issue with Id Tech 3.

uh, this is not exclusive to q3.  drawing more pixels (running a higher resolution) is more system intensive than running a smaller one.  granted, some programs are CPU rather than GPU intensive, and wont benefit much from lowering resolution.  but with about anything 3d, you get better FPS the lower your resolution.

now in q3, i believe the rule is running your client lower than the server's FPS will result in lag issues.  i forget the technicalities of it, to be truethfull, but i do remember that you'll want the smoothest, most consistent framerate for best ingame performance.

I confirm this. 8fps results in 344ms ping response from the EU server while the same connection at 90fps on another machine is perfectly okay with 68ms.

But on the other hand, it doesn't take 20 seconds to kill one stationary dragoon. (150 dmg per clip, reload time 3 secs, and fires about 8.5 bullets per second on standard 1.1)

Wrong. I have a pretty hard time hitting people's heads with my ping to US1 in the 150-170 range (unless I'm a dretch).
