In 1.2 I would like to see fewer ungrateful whiners.

Mr. Angus, I'm very grateful for the game I was given. I played non-stop for four years, I donated, been there done that literally bought the t-shirt.

The game has given me a hobby, a lot of eternal friends, and even a good deal of motivation to finish school.

I find it impossible to let you know just how much I appreciate 1.1.

What I would like to see in 1.2 is more of 1.1. Updated, upgraded, and up-scaled, but ideally not so nastily changed. As for your wish, I won't be around in 1.2.

It does hurt for you to label me ungrateful; I promise that I'm anything but that. Course, I'm also grateful for the first 6 metallica albums, but I still think "re-load" is a pile of trash.

Login is stupid, as accounts are free and I could just hack my client to create a new random account every game.
Login is not stupid.
- you have another chance to ban players by account - forever
- you can delay account activation by hour like this game http://www.driftcity.bigpoint.com/
- you never lose guid
- you never lose nick and your nick will be only your on all servers
- you can have various statistic on web page about players (played time, kills, number of kicks, mute, bans, reasons, and many more)

Btw, back to topic:
I want to see in 1.2 drowning sounds. That sounds missing in 1.1. You can found them for example in map "pulse".

Difficult to have a balanced discussion about development if you only want to look at the pros and just ignore the cons.  Obviously the devs have put some time, thought and effort into their vision for 1.2, are proud of it, and want to promote it.  That's all well and good, but that pride in their work can sometimes cause them to overlook flaws in the gameplay... These "whiners" are the counterbalance that keeps you lovely chaps grounded.

The way this community has developed, it isn't suprising that the devs are inclined (and justly so) to be annoyed by individuals making complaints about minor things, because presumably that individual is just trolling.  If, however, an entire portion of the community (say >5~10% of active members) is voicing a complaint about something, (see also: Hovel Crisis) it seems silly for the devs to ignore.  Would it really kill you guys to put complaints of such magnitude to a vote within the community?

In summary: I acknowledge that you've done great things for this community.  That being said, brushing naysayers off as "whiners" and continuing in a potentially undesirable direction is bad for everyone.  Stop being so elitist, open your ears and mind a little, and you may find a much larger percentage of the community standing behind 1.2.

Oh... alright I admit it......... I'll just go now :P

Srsly though Timbo I am looking forward to 1.2 from some of the leaked demo's out there I think it will look awesome if not still slightly biased (according to stats) toward aliens (btw, I hope the team fixes that issue a bit). The demo's though are using trem1.1 maps, I'm looking forward to a new map set as well.

Oh I certainly hope I've never appeared ungrateful.

I Still reckon it deserves a Trem2.0 version status though with all the effort you guys have put into it (if what I've seen makes it to the released version that is).

Agreed. Still, some minor inbetween updates, like f.e. tjws client in the download area instead of that broken one, would have been nice (Seriously, no sort by ping? What noob developer would keep that up and advertise it on his front page?)

Oh, some more things... Fix some old bugs!
Doors with HP causing 'last nose/spawn' issue (very easy! we already fix it in our mod).
Down side of skybox leaking (ye, i know its common Q3 bug, but it can be fixed)
'smashed' and stuck mara/goon/rant model when respawning from egg on celling near walls.
Some other minor bugs. Most of them well-known, just cant describe them all right now.

back on topic:
  • VOIP sender display - some people was playing with voip its impossible to see who is talking atm some clients have fixed this with a client patch (see fsm patches done by google - 88,89,95 and prob a few more it really belongs prob in the cgame and would make voip easier if this was added to 1.2(with some changes)
  • maybe Voip options like ignore/mute mastergain(mastergains also custom patch thats available in fsm) in the options menu also would it be possible to make callvote mute mute people in voip i haven't tested if it does or doesn't but would be a good feature
  • buildlog, revert etc commands lavacroft thinks that they were rejected because if their inability to revert tight spots thats not entirely  true nomore atleast rezyns latest version uses knockback to move anyone blocking a buildable out of the way so you can revert a base full of players
  • g_version patch in tremulous SVN - this will help modders list their qvm version also allow the official svn to list its version
  • balance testing on any new maps that wil be with 1.2 - i dont know if you are adding any new maps but theres no point balancing for the old crappy ones if the new fresh ones are going to have next to no balance testing done
  • please revert revision 1949 it did serve a purpose and a good one

-Fixed voice chat, broadcasts to only team members unless an svar is set (g_alltalk?), shows you who's talking when they talk)
-Fixed widescreen. Trem supports widescreen, but currently it is Vert- (you see less than you would with a 4:3 resolution). This is 2010, more and more people have widescreen monitors, and not being able to play fullscreen in your native res is annoying, especially for an involved game like Tremulous. This would be very easy to fix (create a variable called "desired_fov" or something, and have fov of different classes be based off of desired_fov rather than be a hard-coded number).
-More buildables. Having buildables that do slightly different things based off of current ones (e.g. a medistation that heals multiple people more slowly than the stock one, an acid tube that poisons enemies instead of hurting them, etc.) would add a more strategic flavor to the game.
-HP bars for buildables visible to non-builder classes.
-Better buildable death animations (the armory falling over is just goofy-looking).

About the FOV: instead of locking vertical fov and giving a HUGE advantage to widescreen users, instead make it depend on height AND width, or give people a choice, OR leave it as is, because seeing more horizontally is a much bigger advantage then seeing more vertically.

About the framerate: Instead of giving people with good hardware a HUGE advantage, let's lock the framerate at 60 frames per second.
About the lag: Instead of giving people with a good connection a HUGE advantage, let's lock the latency to 200ms or higher.
About people whining about widescreen: See the above 2 lines.
Nothing ever happens.

Framerate and lag can't be fixed like that, but FoV can. There is NO reason to make it unfair.
Nice way to compare with random HW related things.

com_maxFPS 60; cl_packetDelay 200

There are good reasons to fix vertical fov.  I like the looks of locked vertical FOV better than fixed horizontal FOV on widescreen.  I normally don't play on widescreen, nor do I care about the very sm HUGE advantage widescreen users have of being able to see a bit more around themselves without looking around.

So you want it because you think it looks good... Well you can have it, just let people with different monitors play fairly too.

There is nothing particular I'd like to see in 1.2 (except a better Tremulous).

It's the final version of 1.2 that I want to see.
