SST adding new maps
« on: March 11, 2007, 07:12:22 pm »
Well, since i got the download working on sst (thanks mg for the space), and it seems to work abnormally well (clocked at 1 min for pulse_102 on 1mbps, simulated download), and players are able to download maps before some ohter players even connect at the beginning (atcszalpha-b2 and soos for example), sst is now adding more maps to rotation. If there is any map you would like to see, post it here, and we will vote on it in our forums at forums.ssthosting.net

Sokolov 1.1 I would really like to test its gameplay.
Battlezone_final It'd be insane on SST :D
Flap
Gamma_core-beta6
meep_b2 If you dont already have it
procyon-r1
temple 5.5
If you want links for these maps... find them yourself! :D

Battlezone would be great if it wasnt so goddamned human biased...alien base is really crappy, you'd have to make a layout with a different starting position for aliens if you were to put it on rotation, but I do agree...battles would be intense

Also, Volcano by LinuxManMikeC is great for intense battles within the first five minutes

EDIT: |SST| should be a beta serv  8)

Battlezone human biased, how quaint :) .  Any alien team that doesn't end battlezone in the first 5 minutes is error prone or new to the map.  The back entrance to the human base is essentially unprotected as is the rest of it and aliens will make quick work of it, especially if they evolve to goon.  Don't believe me?  You can wallwalk past the back turret and sit at the unprotected nodes.   :)  If anything, add a turret or 2 to the back entrance.  Battlezone would be extremely fun on SST though.

You should try Metro, it's big enough where it will work well on a big server and there are lots of places for base moves/forward bases.  I hear the escalators don't move in the newest version so fps won't be an issue there, though I have't loaded it up yet :)

Sokolov would be extremely fun on sst!  I highly recommend trying it out.

May be worth checking out Wata Beta 5 too.  It's come a long way since it's earlier beta's.

Whatever you decide, if it is for something that is not in the MG map repository, let me know and I'll add it :)

We already have flap, vote on it.

It doesnt go into rotation because on sst, the aliens ALWAYS win, just by camping the jumpspot.

Meep b2 is on too.

Ill add the others later.

Metro is voteable, and there is a poll at our forums for adding it. Divided down the middle.

Ill probably add metro anyway, because the map is so fucking cool, and i have been there in real life makes it even better.

I play on SST all the time.

Sokolov's
Pulse
Flap
ATCS Cargo
Aegis (but not as a strict Balance map)
Arcadia

But, added to default rotation. Or maybe a New Map Night.

By the way, I think I dl'd Cargo from either your server or BeerGarden and it took about 3 minutes or less. I dl'd some other (much more complex) map earlier in the night (although I don't remember what server) and it took 30 minutes. I should've just stopped the dl and gone surfing for the map. I could've dropped and dragged it and been playing. What a n00b I am.

Was SST supporting like 52 players the other day? I think I was on when there were about 45 people on. (I confuse myself jumping around between several servers that I get around 45-78 ping on, during my semi-weekly 4-5 hour session.)

I just Increased the throughput cap on /base, your downloads should be even faster now (I got atcs cargo at 6mbits).

Eh, it keeps topping off at 510KB/s then dropping to about 380KB/s (and slowly climbing back up) for me (3-4Mbps). That's about what it was before for me, except I don't think it was so inconsistent...

_Equilibrium_, do you have downloads with curl enabled?

Undeference: Sounds like a problem with your connection, I tested on 10 different systems on 17 different networks. I consistently maxed out.

Equilibrium: go get tjw's client: trem.tjw.org/backport and set cl_wwwdownload 1
