New Tremulous icon?

So, we all know the Tremulous icon. It's that funny-looking 8-bit dretch. In the TJW Mac client, there's a picture of the tyrant with sunglasses instead.

So I propose that a new icon be made. I've made one for myself already, of an armoury. It's a pretty iconic structure (pun not intended), and it looks fine cut out from a screenshot.


So, what do you think? I have it in .png, .psd, and .icns (for Mac). PM me if you want a different size/format.

I think both the retarded black dretch and the armory fail to communicate the true essence of Tremulous.  Perhaps a bloody human, in the act of falling over, with a red claw barely visible at the side?  I can't draw it, but you get the idea...Trem is awesome, the icon should be awesome.

@floodbud: I think your idea is too complicated for an icon. Look at, say, the Firefox icon. It's not a screenshot of Google, with a mouse clicking "Search". It's a simple little fox around a globe, with simplified versions made for successive icon sizes.

@David:I originally designed the icon for my Mac, and icons on a Mac are 48x48 (not 128x128, sorry) and then have versions for smaller sizes  (from what I can tell). It's true that in Windows, the Start Menu and quick launch icons are 16x16, but the icons on your desktop and in folders are bigger than that (I'm not exactly sure how big).
Edit: This page on the Tango Project's website says that Windows' desktop icon size is 32x32.

In my dock, the armoury is actually 16x16 or so, and it's prefectly recognizable. The armoury in itself needs very little detail to be recognizable.

Of course, your suggestions for alternate icons are always welcome.  :wink:

Paradox: I did search, and all I found was some sort of logo contest, full of gigantic banner-size images, with some fancy T's or whatever. I'm trying to suggest a new icon to replace the one that is currently shipped. This isn't some contest.

The current mac icon is pretty cool... I've never seen the windows icon, though, but couldn't you just change it to the current mac icon?

So that's what that black blob on the menu is. :-)   I thought it was a Jackson Pollock.

I'd vote for a tyrant in sunglasses, if it could be made recognizable in 32x32, rather than a mundane old armory.  The transit poster tyrant, however, doesn't quite do it either - need some new artwork.

In my icon set, there is a fairly high resolution tyrant rip. If anyone wants the full png (i cant remember if its in the zip), ill send it to them, its pretty big.

Unfortunately, aliens don't work well as small icons - at 16 or 32 pixels something with less detail like an armory or node would work better.

WTF.. icons are just icons.. you only see it like 0.1% of the time you spend win Tremulous itself. If you really want a different icon you can replace the icon yourself in windows. Get a resource editor. As for me I'll witness its ugliness for 2 seconds, double click it and enjoy the game instead.

It's nice. Simple, clean, elegant. I like it. Although I'm too lazy/busy/unconcerned to replace mine anytime soon. Would be my choice for the icon for future iterations, though.

the black dretch sucks for those of us with dark wallpapers. I like the battlesuitbj6 icon. I would also like to see the planet icon, with a bit of that milky way behind/infront of it.
