That is exactly where your human psyche either thinks into one direction, or the opposite.
How can a human psyche thinks? And how does your remark relate to what I wrote?
There's just a disconnect between visual and singular meaning, realize that.
There is no visual meaning, only a visual shape (called syntax). The meaning of a symbol is given by it's context, rooted in:
- history
- environment
- culture
The transport of meaning in communication is performed by the usage of symbols and signs. Symbols and signs by them self have no meaning. The message (or meaning) is transported when both communicating agents have a similar understanding (connotation) of the symbols and signs used for communication.
For the agent seeking communication, it usually tries to use those symbols and signs of which it expects the receiver to understand, or associate similar connotation with. This is the basis of communication. Using symbols and signs disregarding their connotations in the current cultural embedding only leads to confusion and misinterpretation.
My dear sir, when we see black, shall we call the color afro-american...
The word 'black' in certain context does refer to afro-american, in other context it doesn't. Without context the symbol is ambiguous.
like the numeral I. But i did that by typing an uppercase i
Since you mean the numeral 1, and even added a statement for it being the numeral 1, it is the numeral 1 regardless of it's glyph. I know what you mean because you are clear in this context and provided enough information to clear up any ambiguities.
The kind of Linux users that show behaviour not completely alien to Nazi behaviour.
And so did lava, clearing up the ambiguities of his usage of the symbol and made it clear he did not mean any of the zillion other connotations of this symbol.
Please note that I did not object to lava's usage of the swastika in this particular case. It brings the point across in what he thinks about a particular type of linux aficionados.
I was merely objecting to his comment that the meaning of the usage of the symbol had to be 'decoupled' to be understood, and frankly, it didn't make any sense to me when I did.
Good luck symbol over upside-down penguin? huh

But back to topic: Dasprid > Penguin
[EDIT] changed a word
