I would donate, but I have no idea where this money is going. I donate to servers because I do know that game servers cost a pretty penny in most cases.

I just haven't seen anything much over ioquake3 merges;due to this, I have donated to ioquake3.

Any time a suggestion comes along, the answer is always 'code it yourself and see who plays it.'

Those making these suggestions should ask themselves "Why should the devs scratch my itch?" and "What have I done to demonstrate that my suggestion is worth implementing?"

Actually if you look at feedback, those responses are rarely/never from anyone whose name has "developer" under it. The last time I remember someone with such a title responding at all in such a thread, it was in the positive: http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=8876.0

I'm going to donate soon, I swear! I will, just gotta get my paypal account fixed. (Stupid ebay scammers.  :( ) As to whoever said they will donate to Trem once 1.2 comes out, don't you think you should donate now if it might help 1.2 come out sooner?

You realize they can call the next SVN update 1.2.0, or 1.5, or 2.4, or anything they want.
1.2.0 doesn't have to include all the features they have listed, it's the dev's choice.

The point is....just get it over with.
And no, you can't just name updates anything,  minor/major updates and stable/unstable updates have different names.

Ah well, I donated not because I want 1.2 to come out, because fuck 1.2. :P

It's just nice to "buy Timbo a beer" because normally when I pay for games, I pay for the version that's released, not the version that may come out. I figure of Bungie got 50 bucks for a game I played a total of 10 hours, Timbo can have 10 bucks for a game I've played for thousands of hours. >.>

Not to mention you get this neat sticker thing under your name. All the cool kids have one! Don't be un-trendy. 8)

You can donate for tomorrow, or you can donate for yesterday.

It was a good game ( not playing anymore now since the ping is not good ) for me. I enjoyed Trem1.1.

Can't say when 1.2 is coming out but I think I have donated a long time ago anyway for the fun I had. I think it was something being said by Timbo in #tremulous, then I proceeded with the transfer.

So I say you are a thankless moron when you say "why bother donate when 1.2 is not coming out". Don't come and whine here if you don't want to donate, because I so ****in' care what's your reason. Saying that shows the way you value open-source/freeware developers: slaves you give cookies or face in order to get what you want. Trem1.2 is not a responsibility.. it's a token of sweet labor from the developers and a damn gift for you. Learn to appreciate that.

Thank you.

Are they going to use this money to better improve trem?

The money goes to Timbo directly and in his own words:
Quote
Tremulous has taken many years and a great deal of effort to develop, with no financial backing whatsoever. Monetary gain has never been our goal, but it would be churlish of us to turn down donations from willing individuals. If you've had fun playing Tremulous or if you just respect what we've accomplished, please consider donating. Thanks.

Obviously The devs and Timbo have put ALOT of time/money/energy into making this game and all the related parts to it. If donating $10 means Timbo can buy an extra case of energy drinks for that late-night coding session, I think it's in everybody's best interest to pony up the dough. Also think about how much money Timbo could've made if he went full commercial with this awesome game - it's obviously good enough to have made him some money, but instead the devs chose to make this game free for everyone and in face have spent a lot more than a few dollars towards that goal.

I've spent $100's of dollars on trem allready and do so every month because I think trem is worth it, do you?

What about the others? What about all of us that aren't official devs but have produced alot of fixes/new code for the devs? (This post was made with Amanieu in mind...)

Well, diff IOQ3 and Tremulous.

diff -ru ioq3 trem1088 | wc -l
12393

Okay, so how many of those are from said community members and how many are from Timbo? Based on the current donation rate, I'd say he owes any one of us other contributors something less than a penny. Now I'm not very rich by any means, but I think Timbo can keep my < 1 penny, personally.

[edit] On second thought, Timbo has his fair share of IOQ3 code too, so that linecount would actually be quite a bit more and "our share" (hah!) would be quite a bit less. Now everyone's contributions are appreciated and of value, but they just don't stack up anywhere near enough by comparison to be worth a portion financially.

How do you measure such a cool game with lines of code.
I don't play lines of codes but I play the game.
Maybe ... developers could show their love for their game with a fixed 1.1 release Which they could release years before. That would silence the noobs crying for 1.2 for a while

Whatcha mean Fixed? Laki's more or less spoiled us with qvm updates and patches, and I think there is a "fixed" client is out there, which is available for download from MG (I think?)

I'm not attacking you here, I just hear a lot of people throw around the word "fix" and wonder what they mean.

TJW, Tremfusion, FSM, TW, MG, Tremx, etc.

BTW, Tremfusion the client isn't a cheat, they just had a fixed vms that bypassed pure checks. The client itself is legal, but pure hacks aren't.

I've made a donation to the Tremulous team in the past.
I just want to mention here that it is not only for the software development, but for the entire team. The Tremulous content is excellent (models, texture, maps, ...etc), and it is very rare to find quality content under a free license (Creative Commons BY-SA).

Keep up the good work  ;)

I would donate, but I have no idea where this money is going.

Neither do we, to be honest. The level of donations that we get (about $800 to date) really precludes it actually helping towards Tremulous' development in any significant way, which is to say that it would need to be at a level where it funds a full time salary so that one of us could give up their job to work on Tremulous full time. I think it's clear that this is never going to happen :). One idea was to use it towards purchasing some plane tickets so we can all meet up some time, as we haven't all met each other in person before.

I think as a general statement you should regard a donation simply as a token of appreciation to us rather than payment for any past or future work. And any donations we get really are appreciated :).

A not insignificant proportion of the work that goes into ioq3 which I subsequently merge is stuff that I've done, for what it's worth. I could do such work directly on Tremulous, but doing it in ioq3 first is mutually beneficial as it helps other people that use ioq3 as a base and we get more testing/feedback as a result.

If I'm not mistaken, TJW does the same thing.
As ioq3 developers as well, do you guys get money from donations to them?
