Meh, something I did while I was bored, making a Tremulous comic. Well, its not really a comic, just a bunch of JPEGS stuck together to make a story in a very elementry school fashion, but oh well. Anyways, give me a forum Email if your intrested me in helping me make the next issue, I need help getting people to move for the screen shots. Hope to see your comments!

BTW, I decided to make and release one every weekend, it might be released Friday, Saturday or Sunday. I hope you'll enjoy it!

This is a story of a noob called Haxxor who starts off Tremulous as a noob. Read his adventures as he tries to survive Tremulous and its..umm...*cough* many obstacles.

Suggestion:

Use a client with celshading and/or blooming to produce a more comic style look.

Also, that gamma is painful, turn on FSAA etc, and like someone said above, play around will celshading or whatever.

Hey ppl, I'm happy to see some people enjoying the comic over last weekend

Anyways, since I got more positive replies then I thought I would have, I'll start making the next comic for next week, hopefully it'll be longer and it'll kick off with the storyline (If you want to call it a storyline

). This comic was a pilot showing Haxxor's first reaction to Tremulous, which didn't go so well, and it was a test to see how good I am at doing comics, which I guess I'm not really good at doing.

BTW, I like the idea of the comic looking cartoony, and I loved the TremFusion pics that had Bloom/Cel-shading/whatever on, I'll start using it right away, and I got an idea how Haxxor gets those options on too.

Also, I like the contributions made by the members in the fourm to improve the comic, thanks!

~~But I'll want to try the TremFusion Cel-shade look, it looks like the cartoony textures I like.~~

I found out it might not gonna happen, why? Because I tried running the TremFusion client and it screwed up and said S.DLL was not found or something, unless someone is kind enough to tell me how to fix this or get a running copy of TremFusion for windoes I'll keep usuing the old client.

if something wants to be funny, any failed effort on trying to bring it to a "higher" level of visuals would only distract the viewer.
that is the key of BLASTED.

this also means that "real" ingame visuals are almost too much to much for telling a story that is so much more simple than the actual game reference, yet can be much more funny.

actually, it's something that is really hard to understand even after long years of studying graphic design and animation, and more than two years of doing those as a professional...

take a look at south park. it's hilariously efficient while it's visuals are far beyond zero. if it would have better visuals, it would drew attention from the subject, what is as rude just as much as it's honest.

It is the predecessor to the FSM client.

Those are some of the cvars used:

r_bloom "0"
r_bloom_alpha "0.3"
r_celshadalgo "0"
r_celoutline 0

r_bloom "1" activates blooming and is effective immediately.
r_celshadalgo sets the used algorithm:

Working values:

1 -> colored lightmap
2 -> decontrast
10 -> kuwahara (buggy)
11 -> kuwa+blur (looks less buggy)
12 -> blur+kuwa (buggy)
13 -> blur+kuwa+blur same as 11?

20 -> snn (slow)
21 -> snn+blur (slower)
22 -> blur+snn (slower) looks good
23 -> blur+snn+blur (slowest)

You need to do a vid_restart to activate celshading.

Attention: Celshading slows down map loading times by something between the factor 3 and 10! Your fps might get crippled badly too. But since your producing a comic, I don't think fps matters ;-)

Suggestion:
Try "5" for the celshadalgo. Activate blooming. Activate celoutline. Put alpha transparency on the bloom to something like 0.4/0.3
