Hello All.  ;D as this is my first forum post, i would appreciate it if nobody would start criticising my ideas just for the sake of it. (you know who you are  :police:). so more to the point. i have been playing tremulous for a relatively short time (6 months or so). i am also engaged in allot of other on-line games. i have realised a massive gap in the style of gameplay between other games and tremulous. while tremulous is determined to keep its uniqueness i would however like it to be more like other on-line games. for instance, each player starts off at level 1. no matter what server they are on, their alien/human will always be level 1. if your team wins a game, your character will be awarded with exp. (only if your team wins) :o. once a certain amount of experience is reached, the player will reach level 2, where further upgrades for their alien or human are available. (E.G:, a colour change of the alien or a small change to the alien [sunglasses] ). the more levels the player progresses the more upgrades that are available to the player. such as weapons and armour. if for instance a level 25 player has bought the character a battlesuit and a chaingun   :battlesuit: no matter what server the player enters, they will begin the match with a battlesuit and chaingun. even if they die, they will keep their weapons and armour the next time they respawn. this will eliminate the need for armouries and Evo points. these 'upgrades' might be available from the server select screen. similar to the armoury, it will have different sections. from 'human' and 'alien' the player can select things like 'colours', 'widgets' and 'weapons'. like such:

[Alien]                                                                [Human]
[Dretch] [Basilisk] [Marauder] [etc etc]                       [light] [Helmet] [Bsuit] [etc]
[Colour] [Widget]                                              [Colour] [Widget] [Weapon] [etc]

and so on.
i hope that this will encourage more teamwork within tremulous because exp is only awarded if your team wins a game and each more exp is awarded for more kills. it will also allow players to have more freedom in how they choose their character to look. (nothing major to lagg up the servers, just slight colour changes) :P. this also lets people know who the good players are by what their character has on (perhaps a Santa hat for lvl25's or something along those lines).

I'll have 100000xp in two minutes.  Its OSS so just try to stop me.
And this isn't a RPG, what you want is an entirely different game.

I bet people will love the novel idea to turn tremulous into a MMORPG.

My problems with this approach:
- I use want to use different weapons / classes in different situations.
- When you carry your level from one server to any other server, I could set up my own server, level myself to infinity plus one and then switch to your server and have an unfair advantage.
- I am not opposed to the idea to give players some optical diversity, like different colors or faces or pulsating lights orbiting their heads, but on the other hand I also enjoy the game without this feature.

Lights over my head will just give my position away.
Different colours and faces is a feature that's been discussed a lot.  Evidently nobody seems to think its worth the effort though.

I think that RPG version is not good idea. You can start game like tyrant against naked humans.

But I like idea for sun glasses (dretch with sun glasses :) ). It can be like when player playing one hour, the he is awarded by sun glasses. Two hours - hat. Three hours - something else etc. So others can recognize who playing lot and who few. When player not playing or specing, then he lose every hour one "level". No benefit in game, only looking. And locked to one server.

Or player can change only color, more hours = darker (only eyes should be bright :D ). Black player means player playing lot of hours.

That would be interesing mod and darker players will have advantage in dark places (for example dretchs).

The problem with your idea is that I could be a chain-bsuit against Lv.1 dretches in the beginning of the game, that will certainly show my l33t skills. -.-
Also, what about feeding? I could camp and get the dretches to feed me to lv.1337 and I'll start pwning easily, even if I die. :P
Intresting idea, needs some and balance and maybe someday a modder might notice your idea and pick it up. Very unlikely, but hell, that's how most mods start out, with ideas.  ;)

Note: Since you seem new to the forums (Apologize my assumption) but please, PLEASE, organize and proof-read as best as you can whenever you type anything into the forums. Unlike Tremulous, you have plenty of time to type and correct, and its very difficult to read whatever you type if its all over the place, it doesn't have to be perfect (I probably made 15+ mistakes in this reply), but has to be readable. Thx.  ;D

This would increase the barrier to entry, making the game much less fun for newbies. It would be much more fair to penalize the better players, but...
Need help? Ask intelligently. Please share solutions you find.

Thats what we need, helpful players, not more powerful admins.

Experience points is exactly what makes most Enemy Territory servers suck beyond belief.

Actually I don't even have a TODO list, but I'm working on that (working as in I'll do it when I feel like it)

I've always disliked RPG's, that's why I play FPS's because it takes skill not 24/7 grinding.

okay maybe it was a bad idea.... i like the idea of making players darker the more hours they play. this means that the darker a player is, the easier it is to hide. such as a dretch in a corner that is black is harder to hit than the preset yellow. I just wanted to make tremulous more flexible.

some other issues i noticed are that far too many players i trying to get more points for themselves and are not focusing on the aspect of teamwork. maybe if every single player became slightly darker after each game won through the team. individuals who get 50+ kills still get just as dark as those who got 2+ kills. perhaps people who have 9 evos ore 2000 credits for more than 3-5 minutes have them taken away and shared throughout the team.

You cant correct personality problems with technology.

As for RPG vs FPS, i agree Knowitall. I much rather hone MY skills than what a game says my skills are. FPS games you have to earn your skill, but its different from person to person, and cannot be assigned a number someone else much reach.
