False. Just another excuse to ignore the problem. Failed.
It is not a problem at all if you play with cool people and administrate your server with an iron fist. That's the beauty of this solution.

if you going with 12-20 players you should just use default Build Points. As for FF go with ON but disable prounce damage. Share is best left OFF

I find that most admins have figured out the difference between aimbots and skilled players by now... If you get banned on a server for aimbotting when you are not, well just forget that server since you really shouldn't be playing with scum like that anyway.

As for making another trem server gl with that. I don't think much of announcing a new server and expecting someone else to pay for it though:P

The ONLY way to ensure a future for Tremulous and its players is to...
... cry like a baby, while not really understanding much about the OPEN SOURCE nature of this FREE game?

P.S. A clear cut example of types 5, 6 & 10cc.

and... GL w/ ur server.

I would think that the server would be not THAT vulnerable to ahcking, and the rcon password would probably not be a word like ''password'' but more like a number sequence with words (ex: 13403kadkad409134)

Im still trying to get warrior to say Yes though.

How the fuck can you not tell if someone bots or not, i can usually tell within 10 seconds on watching a player...

It's pretty easy to do unfortunately. If a good player is aliasing then it can be a bit hard to tell, especially with some of the more "creative" features that some of the aimbots use. If they're being obvious (aka snapping from dretch to dretch) then it's usually pretty damn easy to tell but otherwise it can be a challenge.

The ONLY way to ensure a future for Tremulous and its players is to welcome the new, encourage them, teach them, assure them that we all sucked once, etc.
If you set up environments for "pro players only" you will find new players ignore you, become accustomed to other servers and settings, and leave you with only your diminishing core of increasingly bitter old-timers, who sooner or later will abandon the game entirely.

I like your sentiments regarding administration, modification, and player count, though. Are you going to disable share? If so you get a big hug, guaranteed.
Seconded on all counts. While there should be a slew of helpful, generous servers to encourage newbies to get better, though, I'm not opposed to one or two "pro" servers, but you all raise the question on how to decide who's 1337 enough to play there. If you really want some sort of authentication method for this, generate some statistics on which active GUIDs have been regulars for some long amount of time, and then refuse any other GUIDs. Of course, you can't get full GUIDs with just serverstatus updates, so you'll have to rely on names and maybe IP addresses to help confirm, and then have said players !register once they get there. Alternatively, you could take a normal server with no special statistics interface needed, and allow everyone that connects to !register; then, once you've got your player base, run through them and setlevel everyone that you see as a "pro" and disallow joining of teams for the others. This would not need any special master-server-auth system, and it would still allow the interested newbies (level 1s) to spectate the true masters of Tremulous pwnage, which they can learn from. If you really wanted to take this idea to the next level, you could allow the spectators no chat capabilities except to their team and the person they're following (i.e., messagemode1 is modded for spec clients to only be sent to the player), and then there should be a !command that allowed the pros who want to not be interrupted to ignore this chat. Just some ideas. This can be implemented immediately by anybody with even a little bit of coding background; in fact, I might try this out myself....

All i want to see at the end of a game is.....GG. and for most of the players to stay connected for another round.
Plenty of server's out there and if a player don't like a certain server he can go to another, easy.

checking out the top 100 trem server list from time to time gives a good show of servers that seem to be doing something right
Evan if its the porn serv. All about taste i purpose.

The pornserv is actually quite interesting. It contains balance changes which aim to make the game more fun. It is similar to mgdev, but not the same, and does not require a download.

I pretty much have made a solution server, i guess your all american so you dont play aussie servers much but i own a server called auscrim.
We have good players play there, noobs and newbies are aloud but they must listen to good players and not ruin the game or there gone. We let players learn and ruin games on other servers, and when they get to the level of joining a clan they are most welcome (yes some players in clans are still crap) but because its dedicated to clans and scrims we, you are usually playing with other good players on your team.

Administration is like a dictatorship where the players who have proven themselfs and who are good admins are given refferee and adminstrator status, whilst clan leaders are given juinior admin status so they can get experience up. Any issues with admins go strait to me and i look up the entire incident in logs to find out what really happened.

We have some fun mods but there all command orrientated, not qvm and can be turned on or off depending on the players.

And share is on, i dont see why people hate it, share stops fail score whoring, promotes teamwork and helps to win games and stop feeding.

I don't aimbot. I'm just good at my marauder. See arex/aretrix's mar too, well he keeps doing 2-hit kills on me 1 vs 1! but he fails againt's my goon.

Nice revive.

With a picture like that, though, reviving a dead thread can be forgiven. :P

I read through the entire thread not realizing until Vort's post that it was a necro.

>=[

I think a good server should:

+Contain more bp for the aliens since their defenses are more easily taken down.

+Have Share OFF. Any so-called "Pro" server should mean that you don't need to have other people share with you just to get credits/evos. You should be "Pro" enough to get it yourself. Otherwise, you're not very pro.

+Have complete logs of builds and decons, chats and pm's, kills and deaths.

Will post more later.

Kool, a necro :)

Threatstarter: If you wanna play with senseable people, go join a clan, invite other clans, make a private server you give the password to your friends, whatever, what I like about trem is the aspect of teamplay. If you fail as a team, it doesn't matter if you got the killwhores, if ppl cannot cooperate, they lose. How many times have I experienced games with leet-players who got owned because their base got wasted while they were out killwhoring, leaving the base undefended? (See http://tremulous.net/forum/index.php?topic=12195.0 for instance.)

And if you've got a new player, excellent!, if he is not too dumb, they will like it to get things explained, I do this whenever I encounter newbs. Nubs on the other hand I usually /callvote kick -r dumbass or something ;) Trem is - like it or not - a teamgame, and if you can't deal with other people, go play QuakeArena or something, because in this case, Tremulous is simply not for you.
I have retired from Tremulous. Definetely. If you play a game just because it has become a habit, but u'r only feeling like a kindergarten teacher - well, maybe I am just getting too old (hell, I was a teenager when DukeNukem3D was *new*) - it's probably not a bad idea to just let it be. And I do.

Don't take this personally. Have fun, guys.
