If you can't take the occasional insult or criticism, you seriously need to LRN2INTERNET.
I'll insult Lava if I feel like it, and the same goes for Kevlar.
Lava was hardly the friendliest poster I know on this forum, though I'll say he made a decent modmin.
I can respect him and dislike him, you know.

Of course, if you wish to allow insults to normal posters but not modmins, that's fine.
The forum administration can run the show how they see fit.  Just don't act like you can eat your cake and have it too.
Have the gonads to admit that's the way the rules really are, if that's how you intend to use them.

I think the exact reason why he left is here in this very topic: since the karma system got introduced he started to get more and more attacks from posters as it became chic to flame at Lava whenever he did his job. He had some disagreeable decisions about topics and we did our jobs as whiny little users and started debating it... and since you can give karma to admins and you had the right to question them and argue with them some guys thought they had the right to talk shit about them and insult them just for shits and giggles... It is true that Lava did troll and flame but who wouldn't do that after all the little newcomers start shitstorming you because they see that people actually can debate your decisions without getting b&hammered... If this is the reason I can understand him getting fed up and leaving...

Also when someone pointed out the blank servername problem (at the time only Lava's satGNU was blank, the rest had shitty characters in front) it was the day when those servers began to appear and choke up Lava's first-in-the-list server and it started to loose popularity... until the point when he changed the name to pink SATGNU! and everyone left it (including me since I never actually could find it in my list of ~300 servers)...

If the reason is him getting flamed at constantly while his server is getting totally empty I can really understand why he left the community.

Khalsa: the solution is not revoking our privilege to question your decisions but rather regulating the way we do it... If you meant this by no more insulting admins then alright but I hope you didn't mean that from now on we cannot even disagree openly with you guys... (I've seen that and hated it...)

These people give up their time,money,effort to make this a better place. Maybe you don't agree with how/why/etc. but nonetheless they deserve some respect. I deleted several posts that went far beyond simple insults, and I will not tolerate those.

You guys should also realise that not so long ago I was just a community member like you, and I gave Timbo and the mods more shit than you guys apparently ever can - the only difference being is that I did it intelligently and with respect because at the end of the day,  these are the people that make this community.

As far as Lava's reasons for leaving - quite literally the only person who knows why is him. He just went and deleted his account after some drama on IRC, maybe the irc logs of that day will elucidate something, but frankly it does not really matter at this point.

You guys now have a new moderator, and very soon there are going to be some more significant changes around here. I would compell you guys to stop being such dramatic babies, and move your eyes forward to a future where these forums are much more welcoming and open than ever before.

I agree with this entirely 100%.  It seems these forums are often worse than ingame towards new players and any meaningful discussions.

I'll take that a step further, and say you can remove "mods/admins" from the above and replace it with "anyone".  There is very little reason to be as disrespectful of others as many people here are to anyone who asks a question or disagrees with them, and it happens all the time.  Quite frankly it's one of the main reasons I do any moderation at all - one whinybitch screaming at another whinybitch and they all get to go to their corners and take a time out.

It's certainly one thing to reply to someone who posts in a thread titled "How to do $foo" and asks "How do I do $foo?" with "Learn to read".  It's another thing entirely to start questioning someone's parental upbringing and their genetic lineage, wondering aloud how they stopped masturbating long enough to string together that semi-coherent compilation of characters that made up that mentally challenged post, and otherwise comparing them to a fornicating monkey.

Some might call bans for that sort of thing draconian and heavy handed.  I call it enforcing the rules.  Be nice, or be elsewhere.  Doesn't mean you can't say, "Hey Roc, I disagree with that moderation, I think it could've gone this way."  But saying that will get you a lot further than any post which might contain the letters 'ur' and 'mom' anywhere near each other

The reason why Lava was being attacked that much towards the end is because there is no way here to dispute adminship in an official manner. I mean, even on small Tremulous server forums there is usually a way to dispute any unfair, misbehaved, trolling behaviour. Here, mods are never to expire rulers of the empire.

And at times a huge amount of his posts were simply offensive, trollish and offtopic. Did any Administrator warn him? I don't think so.
