Abuse by "DSPro|that guy"

Okay, that guy abused two admin commands: /cancelvote and /mute. I wasn't really paying attention for the first part of the abuse, but I'm posting it because I got the condump and now I know the story. He seemingly for no apparent reason muted Affairs|NN|<2, and when somebody said he was a troll, he muted them. Three people (including me) called votes to unmute Affairs (that seemed to be passing), and he cancelled all of them and muted us all. With that, I'll show you the logs (skip to the bottom for the abuse part, the first part is a convo between some of them, may or may not be relevant, edited out the unimportant parts, will provide full condump if someone really wants...):

Also, he muted almost the whole server just for calling that vote. He goes around muting people he doesn't like. I've seen it before as well. This isn't the first time he's done this. A lot of people have seen.

Most everything that was relevant was cut out.

That guy asked them to please condense their three-to-four message sentences into one, as there was quite a bit of chattiness and it was taking up screen space/chat beep is annyoing.
They intentionally ignored him and mocked him, so he muted. Sounds pretty standard to me.

Players called to unmute, he cancelled the votes and asked them not to question his mutes.
If they called them after he said that, he muted them. Again, sounds pretty standard to me.

The lesson here (oh my god one round mutes we're going to die) is: if you think an admin is doing something that you don't like, don't just blatantly contradict them in an annoying and mocking fashion and you may get what you're looking for.

Just because the people are stupid or trolls doesn't mean that everything should work that way.
And thats kinda always been the deal. if an admin mutes, you don't immediately callvote unmute.

You directly challenged his authority.  Admins don't have much authority so have the choice between taking a zero-tollerance approach to challenges, or becoming powerless.
If you disagree with an admin say so or bring it to the forums, don't insult/attack the admin.

Admins have pretty much carte blanche as to mutes, so it seems like a stupid thing to pick a fight over.

Also, calling a vote directly contradicting an admin action just looks like an attempt to provoke a response so you can come and whine.

Challenging an admin on the server by breaking server rules (spam) is simply a bad course of action. And as far as I know, muting people is a well-used response to all sorts of spam, including votespam. This is not abuse.

Maybe this wasn't apperent from my previous post: I was there at the time, I did see leonordo's ban,
and I did see the drama unfold. Kharnov might have acted a bit tight, but not to such a degree that
limbs and heads need to be severed.

Besides that, everyone was unmuted less than 10 minutes later, the first reactions were about admin abuse,
but at that point I had already told kharnov not to reply. The players stopped responding and the game resumed.

if you police too hard then you should expect people to be all "OMFG that is police brutality!"
i suggest that (certain) admins should take their jobs less serious, it seems having admin power on US1 turns some people into bigots.

I think that it's pretty apparent that being an admin is a personal vendetta to mute/ban those who deserve it. As for the cancelvote, I can't say I support it (though, it wasn't abuse.) However I do agree that calling an unmute vote right after someone is muted by an admin is stupid, really stupid (lol, I come from experience in this department- Even ask F50-- and no, it didn't end in me making an omgabuse thread, it actually led to me talking to him via pm's in game about what happened, exchanging opinions, and well we kinda became friends as a result, you should try talking, rather than spamming. You'll actually make friends, shocker isn't it?) Though, I personally wouldn't cancel it. I'd let them spam more, then perma mute for the rest of the game, and mute anyone who spams as a result of it as well. This doesn't mean that the cancelvote was abuse it just means that that guy, is a more strict admin than I. I give chances, he's too hardcore for chances.
