Are you suggesting an incomplete set of models is released?

It's pretty close to a "release", it has installers, it's offered as an upgrade to 1.1, it's updated frequently through an automatic system when users play on official servers, but yeah, your dismissive attitude is far more beneficial to the development of 1.2 than any facts, or even offloading of work, do carry on.

why would you release incomplete stuff but it is up to devs

close to release is not good enough
and by installer I mean a full installer, maybe I was not clear
but you should have figured that out yourself
What does it have to do with being beneficial? I just criticized current state and made a suggestion.
Ignorance might be bliss for you but not for me
Although development continues the game is dying because there has been no release since 2006
You can ignore that fact and just say that "development continues and we have a release( a release that no one knows other than regulars)"

Anyway feel free to act like a butthurt I made my point clear IMHO

So, what exactly would this full release have consisted of, 1.1 with tiny bugfixes or would it be gpp bundled up with the existing 1.1 assets so that it's a standalone game? Either way it seems ever so slightly pointless and i can't imagine it would have done much to change the current state of trem.

For a few brief moments some time back you were sounding almost positive and helpful, what happened?

I am not suggesting the specifics of a release. I just suggest a release ASAP
Talking with hidebound people like you is pointless.
Really try to think; who would play 1.2 when it comes up after years? Just a few die hard fans like you?
But a release might change it

Hey, you're right, it might, it also might not, good, eh? Who's going to play 1.2, well, you've got your existing active 1.1 players, if they can be convinced to come out of their caves, the gppers seem like pretty strong candidates but their numbers are low, ex-players are quite likely to come back and see what's going on when a new release appears, and then there are the new players, regardless of where the players come from, the whole bloody lot are far more likely to stick around if the release is full on pretty, i envision a small update at this stage putting off more people than it attracts, long term.

Sorry I don't see your point I am talking about an actual release and you are talking about a small update.
You think people live in their caves and will come back. Sorry I haven't been to that fantasy land you mentioned... yet
So you are right about one thing; it is better for me to stop responding to you

There's absolutely nothing to release at this stage, any actual release would consist of 1.1 or gpp with the sounds taken out, or do you have something up your sleeve?

To all the noobs who are mouthing off (mainly Tremulant):

Once upon a time, Tremulous was released with version 1.1
Years passed; there were many exploits and bugs that weren't fixed with the default installer, and an update wasn't released (at this point, most people had left anyway)
It should have likely been called "1.1.5" or something along those lines

Eventually people became frustrated (myself included), and stopped caring about the future of Tremulous. The development team was very elitist in the sense that they did not embrace people who contributed on a regular basis, nor did they attempt to help newcomers (other than certain individuals). }MG{ came along and tried to change the course of development, but eventually they too lost interest (it's hard to develop when you have real life obligations and commitments) after they "took over" Tremulous.

I am an unusual case because I came back (along with a clan that consists of mainly old school players who have played since 1.1 standalone). It is very hard to change the mistakes of the past. However, it is still possible to salvage what's left of Tremulous and create something new. It may not be what we wanted, what could have been; rather, it will be the rebirth of a project that died long ago. An immediate release may be the solution, but I am not really opposed to keeping things the way they are. Right now, GPP is a mod (albeit an "official" mod) of 1.1

For now, this is a step in the right direction.

I'm not entirely sure why you're directing this at me, and it seems irrelevant to vcxzet's ravings, so what was your point?
Yes there was a time when bugfix releases would have been a good idea(though i'm not sure what impact the lack of such releases has had on trem's vitality), but people gave up hope of such releases years ago.

So, what's a step in the right direction, QweefZilLa asking for a specific thursday, gpp being a mod to 1.1 or something else entirely?

New Tremulous won't come out in this year or even in the next year. Why? Because there is noone who is playing this game. Why? Because it's out of date since.. 2006? Why? Who knows..

How long do you have to wait? I guess the real question is, how long have you been waiting already? If less than five years, you've GOT to be JOKING.

We need simply a few dedicated people who have time.
Assets need rigging, animation and such.
The engine needs some work, maps need to be made, textures are needed and shaders+etc are required for the maps.
I still don't have time, I'm still busy and have a feeling it will increase.. But perhaps maybe I can come back, help, and see Trem get released(not tat I will make a lot of a difference). But it seems you have to have no life to get a lot done, which is not my case.
Partially the issues are that there isn't pay, I mean I'd be there if it were $5 USD an hour just to say I'm making a few bucks.
Since that's not the case you get the craplist of stuff to do.
For instance, I wanted to animate the dretch.
I JUST wanted to animate it. I didn't CARE about anything else, which one to use, and all those other implications.
Just give me the .Blend and be done with it. I didn't want to relearn rigging, nor did I want to fix rig issues.
I'm not an idiot, I mean I've been messing around with Blender and such for like 6 years, I've clocked in my time....
(not that I'm particularly great at many things)

But it ended up I was attempting to keep myself in the loop. I didn't know what mesh/blend/version to use,
I was/still rather am poor at rigging so I ahd a lot of hair pulling and issues.
I wasn't being lazy, I just didn't/don't have the time to learn another thing and I wanted I was supposed to do.

If someone were to give me a .blend rigged and ready to animate, I'd do it.
I don't want to go to IRC, be there every day, and be some groupie.
(Been there, done that.)
Nor do i feel inclined to invest a bunch of time to be in a club, figure out what state the asset is it, do the work and find that my time was flushed since somebody didn't check it first for me.

Ah all of this stuff is still in me, I still want to do stuff..

Hmm... after seeing 8/8/11's update [chain zap damages are now the same instead of halving at each point] making mara more OP, i think this project has been ditched. Honestly, UV is doing better even though their masterlist is pretty empty at any random time.
I remember the good old times when we actually believed 1.2 was coming out.

well its already passed five years since 1.1.0... fuck you brought back old memories of complaints. Oh well, its like not the world cares anymore.
With the trem update stuff:
My friend did say this after all: Here we go again....

I logged into the tremulous IRC a couple weeks back to ask a similar question. I was truly and honestly surprised to see Timbo still there, in the IRC. I reckon he's got some sort of bot or has forgotten that there's some random IRC client running on some distant and forgotten PC.

Edit: I'm surprised too that he was active on these forums 6 months ago

I believe that the developers of this game are no longer interested. If you really want to play something like this game now or in the future support unvanquished or TremZ.

Saying this though, checking some of the team's profiles a few of them stay on top of things. People like Lakitu7, Stannum, Undeference, DASPRiD have all logged in since the beginning of April. I'd like to know how they feel about the game.

Yeah something like that, they're undergoing financial difficulties and are considering a merger with Microsoft Game Studios for $1 million. Once this is done they will continue to work on 1.2, and have a deadline set for March 2013. From what my (anonymous) sources tell me, it's going to have an RRP of $15, and it's going to be released on PS3, X360 and Gamecube.

How come everyone gets their panties into a knot about this discussion? We ALL know Tremulous 1.2 is coming out Thursday, so stop acting like giant gay orgy and straighten up gg.
By the time 1.2 is finished, time travel will be normal, so why don't the future devs just travel back and release 1.2 early?  ???
