Okay to answer your question: A developer took your admin away, they're the only ones who have the ability to do so.
Also, even if it is just "one" person, some people may have been being quiet about their displeasure in your actions. Moreover, this isn't a clan server.

WarLock, I've known you for a long time; I'd really hate to see you leave Trem, please reconsider. Think of it, it's just admin. Now you don't need to babysit anymore, you can just chill and relax. So at the very least, sleep on the idea of coming back to tremulous, if you don't come back you'll surely be missed.

If you're leaving just because you lost your admin, please reconsider. Like Ziploc said, not being an admin anymore means you won't have to babysit. I even gave mine up voluntarily because we have enough admins already (over 600, the last time I checked)!
But if you're just moving on to another game, best of luck and have fun. ;)

ok, can you give me the tool thingy app that can code?

I removed your admin. I had multiple complaints about it in my inbox within minutes of it happening. Looking at the logs shows plenty of people were confused and clearly weren't in on this (and no, not the same people who complained). The rules state that you should not use admin powers without good reason. Players were not prevented from playing tremulous until you used putteam. Players were prevented from playing tremulous because you used putteam.

I like you and I'd rather see you stay. But if being an admin is so important to your existence here that you will leave without it, then it's probably good that you take a break anyway. Being an admin sucks and you should be playing for enjoyment of the game, not administration / status.

I couldn't agree more, except I kinda like adminning- although this is mainly because as a newbie at times I felt admins treated me unfairly, which has led me to strive to be an admin wherever I regular, even if I rarely use it (admittedly, sometimes I don't use it enough, and on occasion a bit excessively. We all make mistakes.) That being said, from what I've seen of you WarLock, you're someone who is someone who likes to play; not someone who likes to babysit/admin. I really think you should keep playing Tremulous. You're a great player, and aside from a few rare occasions you've always been a great person too. I'd hate to see you leave over something as silly as admin-status.

I've always had a great time playing with you, even if you know how to make a guy ragequit =p

It's a shame to lose a good player but this isn't the first time I've seen him react oversensitively. What he did was silly and selfish and I in fact have nothing against that, personally, but the consequences should be obvious and when it loses you admin you should know why.

WarLock bro, keep coming around Mumble, we're not on as often as we used to be but it's still worth checking time to time.

It should be noted that WarLock has been a top player in this game for an incredible amount of time, almost from beginning to end in relation to the game's current age, and is probably the most underrated player I can remember, in all regards. But what differentiated him was really just the experience of playing alongside him. I know of no one else who could take up a leadership role with such focus, logic, and most importantly, optimism, regardless of how the game was going. I could never provide an atmosphere like he did in competition, and it's doubtless that you need some kind of legitimately amazing resolve in some form to do what he did, and I find that very deserving of true admiration.

There can be many, many months, even a year or more, between me giving praise in the way of a tribute like this. With that said, the above should be held in great regard as truth. WarLock did things in this game that didn't come purely of knowing the game itself, he damn well has something real going on for him that is worthy of the attention of, at the bare minimum for the present situation, this entire community, even if it is dwindling.

Playing Me against the World is a pretty douchebag thing to do.

Believe it or not it actually stacks the odds heavily in your favour unless the opposing team has considerable discipline, patience and experience among the ranks and lacks beginners. With the stage leveling system you will hit stage 2 almost instantly.

Think of it this way. There are 3 veterans on the server and 3 moderate players and 4 beginners. If you played only the veterans against each other the 2 would probably win. For the purpose of this match up the beginners will essentially be dead weight because there will be nobody on the other team they can match up against and hope to win. IIRC each player adds 4 to the stage count. So those 2 players now have to get an extra 16 kills on someone who is evenly matched with them to stage up (and another 16 for stage 3). The 3 moderate players might get a kill or two each but only for the first few minutes while you are staging up. After that you have a skill difference and stage difference to contend with; not going to happen. That adds another 6 or so to the stage 2 counter and 12 to the stage 3 counter. Oh yeah and those two veterans also need to grab their 8 for stage 2 and stage 3... and build.

Now it may seem fun to you to "pwn 9 other guys" but in reality you are just hamstringing them and making for a very boring game. I mean you have 9 guys chasing 1 guy who will never run out of money, knows how to use that money and has 2 stages more for most of the game.

I'd be pissed too. FUCK YOU. ::)

It's an official, public server for balance testing, and it's very obvious nobody can hi-jack the official server for what he or others think would qualify as "fun". You're free to do things like putteaming, locking the teams, having a scrim etc. in your own private server at any time.

But if being an admin is so important to your existence here that you will leave without it, then it's probably good that you take a break anyway. Being an admin sucks and you should be playing for enjoyment of the game, not administration / status.
Leaving due to having admin powers stripped (for being an idiot yourself) indeed sounds like something a sad, sad individual does.

Lakitu7, why do the official server admins have lock / unlock? Can't think of a legitimate use for them in the server.

lock / unlock?

Yes, it's hard to think of reasons for that power but I can manage a few:
  • Widespread teamswitching
  • Suspected team of griefers entering the server
  • Generally temporary measures to allow time for further action
  • Possibly for special events*

*This would require both minimal disruption to statistics and to those not taking part who want to play

Your faults are:
  • You misused your administrative powers to make the game more fun for you and less fun for everyone else.
  • You created a topic where you admit your faults, but whine about the inevitable consequences.
  • Another pointless "IM LEAVING TREM LOOK AT ME" drama thread.

  • Widespread teamswitching
In most cases teamswitching isn't prohibited. Flooding with teamswitch is possible - but not if you've spawned at least once. Using lock to counter teamswitching is a bad choice as it makes everyone unable to join a certain team, better warn and kick or ban for 1 second in my opinion. Widespread teamswitching = everyone switches teams? Never seen that happen in my life.
  • Suspected team of griefers entering the server
Suspected? Can't lock teams just because I *suspect* some people are going to grief. If I do, I'll spectate or otherwise observe the suspected griefers, and take measures when they actually do grief.
  • Generally temporary measures to allow time for further action
The pause command.

  • Possibly for special events*

*This would require both minimal disruption to statistics and to those not taking part who want to play
This is called taking over the server, which is explicitly prohibited in the server rules, and led in this and some other case to an admin being demoted.

Still, I feel like no admin needs lock/unlock (except for server takeovers of course), and if there ever were perhaps official special events (what would those be?), developers having lock/unlock would suffice.

I figure he meant official events.  But in those cases I'm pretty sure that they'd just throw up another server for it.

They don't? I didn't think they did, although it's possible that another developer saw this and beat me to removing it.

Yes, those reasons are stretched if they are even likely. I was attempting to advocate why they could be useful but in general I don't believe they are.

The teamswitching case is an unlikely but possible case where a large clan or group decided to mess around and perhaps 'know-no-better's on the server follow. All other measures are either slow or disruptive themselves and don't deal with the particular issue directly. That said, a pause a quick warning and subsequent kicks should get the message across too. Teamswitching isn't necessarily against the rules but it is disruptive, unfair (tantamount to ghosting) and shows they're more interested in playing their own game.

I use 'Suspected' under the assumption that the admin is able to make good judgements to maintain order and fair play, as is his job.

Pause is disruptive in itself. If it can be avoided, it should be avoided. I'm not saying don't use pause but bear in mind that a griefers mission is to ruin the game and sloppy adminning can easily help them achieve that.

I did mean official events and yes I would hope another server could be used to allow nonparticipants to continue normal play, just note that whichever server hosts the event would need the lock commands.

Mes chers Warlock,

Adieu mon amour,

prenez soin
