Disappointing Community
« on: June 29, 2012, 03:37:08 am »
I just began tremelous due to a friend's recommendation, and upon arrival an admin kills my turret and then proceeds to kill me. His reasoning was "Don't build shitty rets"
His name was something along the lines of GT Lucid or something.
So I proceeded to kill him back, and I got a nice 5 minute ban.

Overall, getting shot down just because I have no idea what to do. Awesome welcoming community.

Who? Where? You'd think an admin should at least put a little effort into not being an asshole to newbies.
Need help? Ask intelligently. Please share solutions you find.

Thats what we need, helpful players, not more powerful admins.

again, current reactionary admins are simply not working towards the productive effort. I ask to disqualify them altogether. Most of them are treating US server as their own property. Besides playing with their friends, their are not concerned about their responsibilities whatsoever.

I came here fully expecting to express the communities unequivocal disappointment in new members such as yourself, then I saw the name GT lucid.

In a very short time you managed to see what a whiny little bitch that one is and call him out on it, I commend you and say:

GT....so you must be playing GPP instead of 1.1, No? If you are, then there's your problem right there! If you're not, then, I love you.
By the time 1.2 is finished, time travel will be normal, so why don't the future devs just travel back and release 1.2 early?  ???

lol, gpp turret building needs more skills in placements due to the frustration of build point recovery. Play 1.1 to start with, it also has more players and mods. Try [][][]AA for a start, its like the only popular vanilla [normal] gameplay tremulous server now.
I recommend you watch were people put their turrets before you start building, and make sure you understand why they put it there.
Few things to note:
-Turrets actually have a shorter range than you think
-Gpp turrets on its own or cluttered up together are free points for aliens [easy to kill]
-gpp turrets need to be placed so they can protect each other
-gpp turrets suck arse because they are useless close-range and against gpp's adv marauders*
-1.1 tremulous turret ranges are shorter
*1.1 Marauders are harder to use [movement and zapping]

0.o Lucid did that? I'm surprised. I consider him to be one of the friendlier admins... or am I just blind?

Welcome to Tremulous. We have a few rules:
#1: Don't kill grangers, or you will be kicked.
#2: Turrets must be build in tight clusters as an offering to friend mara at the beginning of every game.
#3: You aren't allowed to win if you play humans (see rule #1).

Remember to get your daily dose of lambda expressions. With any luck your stay will be short :D

I'm quite impressed by the way the community has treated the newcomer.  In many places it starts by saying something like:  "If you don't want that to happen to you, don't build s****y rets".  Kudos to those that have replied to his post.

Here's what new people don't get. Watch first. You want to discover?

>Go to an empty server.

Basically, learn first. Watch.

In games such as Call of Duty, when you play online, you are first paired up with people around the same skill level. There's no way around playing with people who have been playing Trem for close to a decade. For real.

tl;dr the only new people who really suck are the bitches.

No it kinda goes both ways!
admins and really skilled people get frustrated with newbies if ur frustratd insttead of doing that have the courtesy of teachiing them. Or refer them to a trainin server.
its like seriously it doesnt take much effort to do that. It takes more effort killing aret then tk'ing him.
Then we wil have more players in u tremulous insteadof more players lost!

You'll be surprised but Trem community has been like this since the first release of Trem.

Kharnov did a good job in the (tremz) description about the game being very anti-noob.
Trem prettty much keeps the whores, kills the noobs [hence driving them away]

When i got some peple to try trem, some comments they made about it [not the exact words, im retreiving from my memory]:
Quote
-> The graphics are shit! Box maps! The human spawns with a box as a gun!
-> The game is very alien-sided!
-> Everywhere i go i get killed instantly! [toughn up kid]
-> Everything so laggy! [derp, you're on a bloody american server. You won't find any aussie servers in gpp that has players, good luck]
-> 1.1 is shit! Resolution doesn't fit the screen! [i told him to get tremfusion, he had no idea how to install it, hence he only played gpp]
-> The admin kicked me for building a turret! Then i came back, and i got kicked for feeding! Then i was later muted! [later ragequits]
This is an example of what a newbie mind goes through. At the time i started tremulous, unlagged wasn't implemented on many servers, nor did people  know what the hell it does. My experience was really different those days. I was like "Everything so squarish, shit graphics, but it can run on my computer! My first fps game that works!"

Now that games are visually appealing, not to mention more players = more fun, tremulous is gonna pretty much die out by 2014.
Theres a bloody anime page which is hardly known to anyone, [Bibliotheca Mystica de Dantalian, which is about a girl who keeps books within herself and a keykeeper that uses her to retreive those books in times of need, and reads them out to have a certain effect etc., sounds pretty boring] and yet it has a lot more likes on facebook than tremulous.

I dont think that anime was ever advertised. I never seen a advertisement for it, nor have i bothered. Maybe its the genre of 'anime' that makes it more popular, because there is a limit to how many animes a year tv stations can host up at once. Then again, tremulous is really outdated.
From what i know, without effort, i probably advertise tremulous personally more than 95% of you guys. Most of those who try never try again after a maximum of a week.

Someone needs to figure out how to use Source Filmmaker to do movies using Trem props, then upload some awe-inspiring content to YouTube.  Maybe that would work.
