hah, so god can't do everthing :P
If he can, together with his brother, can he make a stone that's unliftable for even his brother (or any relatives, friends or whatever :P) to lift?
i smell that i want to discuss this

ShadowGandor-

At last, someone has spotted a problem I couldnt be bothered to edit out.
But I have the answer!

God = All knowing, can do everything

He makes an unliftable rock.
But he cant, because he can do everything, and if in turn he cannot lift this rock, then it just cannot exist. Still he cannot lift an unliftable rock, but it doesnt exist, because it just cant.
However, if anyone in the Tremulous forums wants something to do on a rainy day, try making an unliftable rock for God. Cause if you do, then Religion is gone in an instant.
Or make one and mail it to me, cause Im God and Ill see if I can lift it. Let the trials begin.

Postage costs will be a nightmare though.

tss, it's not that easy to beat me -thinks for about 10 minutes-
But if it doesn't exist, why doesn't god make one? He can do everything right? Indeed, it is impossible for god to make a rock like this, which means that god can't do everything. You agreed it was impossible but you also said that this means it cannot exist but not being able to do something doesn't mean it cannot exist.

Ah, worthy adversary of philosophical knowledge.

Quote
But if it doesn't exist, why doesn't god make one?

Because he cant, and thus it cannot be created, it is merely a dream.

Quote
He can do everything right?

Indeed I can.

Quote
Indeed, it is impossible for god to make a rock like this, which means that god can't do everything

This rock could not be made by anything or anyone, and therefore cannot exist. If it cannot exist, not in the future with technmology, or any other means, then it doesnt count.

Quote
but not being able to do something doesn't mean it cannot exist.

God can do everything, and If he cannot do it, it cannot exist.

What I am trying to say is that this rock you speak of does not, can not and will not exist.

So you say that dreams don't exist? Dreams do exist, in fact, i have them every night, like everyone else. Dreaming is a state of your mind in which you do things (hey, another question, though this one is answerable 'cough'wiki'cough).

I SAID IT CANNOT EXIST because you, nor I or anything or anyone else will be able to create this rock, I dont just restrict this to planet earth, other planets, stars and everything else will not be able to create this rock, because I made the universe.

I have a question...

You are at a gateway... actually 2 of them...

Two Gate Ways, One leads you to Eternal Suffering, one to Eternal Bliss.

    * Two guardians. One always lies, one always tells the truth.
    * You can ask one of them just one question. ONLY ONE!

Your possible choices (to make it easier)

   1. Which door is corect?
   2. Which door is not corect?
   3. Which guard is lying?
   4. Are you the guard who lies?
   5. Is he the guard who lies?
   6. Is GOD lying?
   7. Which door would GOD say is correct?
   8. Which door would the SATAN say is correct?
   9. Which door would the other say is correct?
  10. Do both doors lead to death?
  11. What is behind this door?
  12. What is behind the other door?

Choose... Wish you luck!

Evelsoa-

That is interesting.

Q1. What is correct? Heaven or Hell, depends on your view. Nope.
Q2. Same as 1, define correct. Nope
Q3. To lying guardian:Truthful Guardian
To Truthful Guardian: Lying Guardian
This would not acheive anything, so Nope.
Q4. LG: No
TG: No
Nope
Q5.This wouldnt tell you which gate to choose. Nope
Q6. So far, God has not told you anything (and I wouldnt lie to myself) Nope
Q7. God would like me to choose eternal bliss, Good Question (see note 1)
Q8. Satan would probably like me to join me, Good Question (see note 2)
Q9. Nothing accomplished. Nope.
Q10. If they do, which they dont, I would just stay put, perhaps become the 3rd Guardian. If not, then I still wont know which door for eternal bliss.
Nope.
Q11. Good Question.
Q12. Nope, even tho its basically same as 11.

Note 1.
Depends wether Im nice to God or not, if he hates me he would trick me into going to Hell.

Note 2.
Although a slippery fellow, Satan always wants more souls for hell, so he would always tell me Hell. But, then again, when taking in all variables of a conscious being of sentiance, you just cant gamble the rest of enternity on a guess.

I would choose Q11
and ask the Truthful Guardian.
However, I see a loophole, if I do not specify exactly which door I mean, the Guardian could mean any door.
I would point at a door and ask what was behind that door.

(however, if this is the trap u want me to fall for, I would take a gamble on Q8 and ask the lying guardian. So that the negative of Satan trying to trick me and the negative of the guardian lying making a positive, Heaven).

Alternatively, being God I could take my

Stairway to Heaven
God bless Led Zep.

and avoid all those pesky nuicances.

Intelligence personified, I am.

You, my friend, are foolish. You do not know which of the guardians is the truthful one and which is the lying one, therefore it is impossible to know which of the guardians you are asking.

There is no correct answer unless you know which guardian is which, or unless you find a loophole. I had it figured out, but I lost it.

Answer is 9...

How? well... let me explain God, who got it WRONG...

If one tells the truth, and one lies, the one who tells the truth knows who lies. If you ask 9, which door would the other choose, and lets say you ask it the liar, he will say this one, which means the truthful one would pick the other door that the liar picked. So you take the other...

If you ask the truthful guardian, he will say the liar would pick this one, again, making you take the OTHER door that the truthful one picked...

Understand? YOUR WRONG!! haha i knew id get you with this one...

Afterall, why ask 11 if I told you the answer to it? LOL

Edit - You dont know which one lies, which one tells the truth. I didnt say you know, and therefore you must assume you dont.

Look...

This is where the riddle is from... and this is the answer...

Here is the text of the riddle that Clavicus Vile asks to Cyrus.

The context

Clavicus Vile is sitting in a chair with a dog at his right side in front of a little house in a green meadow. Cyrus has offered Clavicus Vile to play a game because Vile said he was bored. But Cyrus had to wager his soul against Iszara's soul in the contest. Now Vile has to choose a riddle and Cyrus has to answer right to free Iszara's soul.

Vile:
And now that I have your complete attention. You're ready for your test. But, before we start...
Cyrus, did you have a classical education?

Cyrus says nothing

Vile:
Good, good, just checking. Just that a thinking man, a well-educated man might have an unfair advantage in this test. But no! You're a hero...a man of action, right?

Cyrus:
You're talking to yourself Vile. I'm ready. Let's go.

Vile, the riddle:
So you probably won't recognize this old chestnut, taken straight from Paulus's "The Stars on Their Shoulders". Ready? Listen carefully! I won't repeat it!

Two doors. One leads to the loss of your soul, the other leads to the return of Iszara's.

    * Two guardians. One always lies, one always tells the truth.
    * You can ask one of them just one question. Just one!

The game begins... Choose wisely... Hee hee!

Cyrus, possible questions:

   1. Which door is corect?
   2. Which door is not corect?
   3. Which guard is lying?
   4. Are you the guard who lies?
   5. Is he the guard who lies?
   6. Is Clavicus Vile lying?
   7. Which door would Vile say is correct?
   8. Which door would the dog say is correct?
   9. Which door would the other say is correct?
  10. Do both doors lead to death?
  11. What is behind this door?
  12. What is behind the other door?

The only question that enables to guess the good door in all cases is:

9 - Which door would the other say is correct?

There are four cases but in all, the guard will indicate the wrong door, and Cyrus will have to choose the other one.

    * if Cyrus asks the liar, this one knows that the other guard would say the good door, but as himself is a liar, he'll indicate the opposite door, the wrong door.
    * if Cyrus asks the trusty one, that one knows that the other guard is a liar and would say the wrong door, so he'll report truely the lie of the other guard. In both cases the reported door is the wrong one, so Cyrus just has to choose the opposite door than the one reported.
    * if Cyrus is answered THE RIGHT DOOR, he has to choose the LEFT DOOR
    * if Cyrus is answered THE LEFT DOOR, he has to choose the RIGHT DOOR

For all the other questions, both of the doors are wrong. Obviously the game considers the other questions as non fitting ones and removes the 50% chance that one should usually have in choosing at random. So, that if the gamer asks another question than the #9, he has 100% chances to pass through the wrong door.

I disagree about that one. That riddle in that form has no possible answers because it relies on one piece of information that is missing: nowhere is it said that the guardians know about each other particular behaviour. And so, asking the guardians which always tells the truth "Which door would the other say is correct?" could very well end with the very useless answer "I don't know" :D

Dude... It makes perfect sense!!

Why do you try my knowledge??

Look, il explain again.

Lets say you pick randomly, the liar. The liar will always say the opposite of truth. If you ask him which would the other pick (in other words which would the truthful one pick) he would lie, and say the right door. Pretend the right door is false. Now if thats the case, you take the LEFT door, because he lied and said the right door. This means the truthful guardian will pick the LEFT door...

Now lets say you pick at random, and ask the truthful one. The truthful one, KNOWS that the liar lies, therefore if you ask him which door the liar picks, the answer he would give is the right door. Because if you look above, the liar picked the right door, and the truthful one will pick the right door, and since he doesnt lie, he is correct... Either way, you win in this case...

How can I explain it to you goddamnit, there is no info missing, everything is there...
