I wasn't really thinking about a patch tracker but more of a contributions tracker, that applies to everything the community creates (except the flamewars). Maps would be better in there than in a forum because people would be able to vote for them, so you could sort them by popularity.

Perhaps this idea has already been said, but I think all Tremulous add-ons/maps/QVMs/patches/clients/demos/whatever should be placed in a central repository (something like contributions.tremulous.net). Not a category in the forum, but an actual website. Free hosting provided the file is Tremulous-related.

I dunno if www.tremwiki.com is *official* but I think tremulous.net should have another subdomain, namely wiki.tremulous.net. Wait, did someone already say this?

And while I'm discussing things no one will ever implement, how about a built-in contributions.tremulous.net browser in the client itself? Maybe even an automatic self-update system?

It would be interesting if someone could come up with a self-contained server application, containing the necessary tremded and QVM. I'm too lazy and probably not skilled enough to do this, but it would be an interesting idea. No more diddling around with your filesystem and asking stupid questions about what goes where.

I'm a developer! If you'd like to contribute to the Equilibrium QVM project or download the latest version, please visit this thread.

QVMs now compile under Leopard; get the patch here. Requires SVN r1053 or later.

One request for the official wiki, if it ever gets built.

MediaWiki. Not any of these other wikis, but mediawiki. It seems the most stable, easiest to use, and is probably the one most people know about.

Something for community generated stuff is on the list, though I have no idea at this very moment how/what it will be. Possibly I'll make a future topic to discuss it and get ideas, or just make Dasprid code something fancy from scratch.

I am planning on using mediawiki for the wiki.

Stay very on On-Topic, since I will nazi-moderate this thread until you dumbasses cry your eyes out.

[PS] Some sort of browser-based IRC client which takes people right to the #tremulous channel might be an idea.
[PS2] 'dumbasses' wasn't exactly meant for the people who made good suggestions here.

Ew. From doing code projects with Wiki's, I'd say that MediaWiki is good for images, how-to's, and Wikipedia. For actual coding projects, PmWiki provides lots of code and great documentation where other users have implemented things specifically for open-source program development. The engine is also a lot cleaner and less bloated for how highly configurable it is.

Links to resources that can help the player start out - such as:

Tremcentral.com
Tremwiki.com
Etc

And..a subdomain of tremulous.net named central.tremulous.net that redirects to tremcentral.com.

I gave my 2 cents, but here's 2 more ;)

I've found trem stuff online where its all in one directory.  Let me tell you, the sheer number of trem maps drowns out all other stuff, and the number of maps is only going to increase.  I would strongly suggest giving maps their own separate area, distinct from all others if they are to be hosted by tremulous.net.  The whole reason I mention a separate location for community contributed things is because I expect there to  be a relatively small number of high value objects like scripts, configs and the like.  Things that are very useful but would (and do) get drowned out by the noise.  Hopefully they would be remembered, maintained, and people would learn from their use if they are readily available (can actually be found ;) )

It can't be said enough:
a map repository, or at least a hint on the availability of other maps.  ;D

as a sidenote: the screenshot page animations look fancy but are
annoyingly slow.

-i guess placing links on the top of each topic would help more than stickies (ofc it can be both). i imagine something like addink a link to the map collections at the maps sections, the manual's link at the general discussion, and so on. saving one click for a newbie would save hours of suffering to members and mods.

-also, there should be something like "patch-packs". there was a suprisingly good topic from blood2 about updating the stuffs at download section. it can be simply added to it separately with some brief descriptions, so you can download huds, configs, server-making goodies simply - without searching and annoying others with that.
a newb in trem starts nowadays with dozens of handicaps. he doesn'T have lagometer, a 'cool' hud, weapon changing and building binds, etc... and obviously he/she doesn'T even know that he could have one.

-fan art section, for adding some free time to me, so i can beat xaero at hardcore to 20 - -20. this could encourage many dudes out here, and could add a resource for devs to pick up free modelers/writers/musicians/artists/designers.

-highlight if someone is a mod, and standards for behavior at the forums... active on all of us.

-make a test page, where devs can get some info about members interests, computer-technical parameters, age, gender, etc... and some polls about whatever they are curious of. some faq could be answered there also while stays a question, so noobtopics could be also reduced :-)

I didn't think you will take it up as an isnult :-(

#tremulous now requires users to register with FreeNode before speaking, so I think this will not work.

That could easily be explained on the page where the actual applet is hosted. The only thing it requires is for people to be able to read, which is a requirement to function on IRC anyhow.

I really want to put some sort of applet on the site. There are various other methods of dissuading spammers besides +R. I'm sure we can come up with something other than +R and keep the IRC channels spam-free.

Hi :-) Nice approach for community involvement! Thank you verry much indeed.

I would like to see a blog integration on the website that is able to integrate posts from developers or even users blogs if they are interesting enough. Take https://gnunet.org/drupal/ as an example.
This would make the life of website editorial much easier and help the community to get involved.
A directer way to the builds, bugtracker (along with how to report a bug education) and wiki (for roadmaps and details) would be very much appreciated.

In the end a website cannot solve organization problems at heart but your request for feedback shows that the situation might improve. Keep getting organized better and better and look how other open source projects do it.

http://wesnoth.org
http://ufoai.sourceforge.net
http://vegastrike.sourceforge.net

Thank you again. If the community is in need for some php consultation or hands on PM me. You might want to consider drupal or silverstripe as the CMS of choice but I hope this point wont start a flamewar. Just my 2cent.

Or, you know, assume khalsa and dasprid are competent and know what they are doing, and probably know a fair amount more than you do about what's needed?
If they want advice on software, I'm sure they'll ask.

Yes. And your point ? I believe Khalsa is working together with the genius. So why worry about what package they are going to choose as a solution ?

Bla bla bla bla. The main thing I see there is "please donate to our account".

On a more serious note ( naaw I wasn't serious ):

One thing I really love for a website + forum combo is to have a banner/link at the top of our forum 'frame' back to the mainpage. It's not really important since our news update is far and long between. But it's nice to have it.

This theme has to go. I prefer dark brown, dirty yellow, grey and black.

I propose an additional, alternative, game type, here is the description.

Instead of counting kills to switch to the next stage, we could turn it into something the squad can buy. Let me explain.
We could have a "squad money/evo bank" that must contain a certain quantitative of money/evos to switch to the next stage; but this bank should be filled with voluntary donation by each player.
This is the news: people will have 2 choices: use the money for themselves and buy equipment/evolve, or donate them to the "squad bank" to help their team reach the next stage. :D

In my opinion, this additional modality would avoid counting a goon-vs-naked-marine-kill just like a naked-marine-vs-tyr (+1 to next stage), which is a little unfair, and would add a easy way to teamwork.

Well, at least I hope you'll find this original ;)
