In 1.2 stages work by creds earned, not kills, so bigger aliens count for more and building count too.
And this thread is for website stuff only.
Any maps not in the MG repo?  Email me or come to irc.freenode.net/#mg.

I propose an additional, alternative, game type, here is the description.

Instead of counting kills to switch to the next stage, we could turn it into something the squad can buy. Let me explain.
We could have a "squad money/evo bank" that must contain a certain quantitative of money/evos to switch to the next stage; but this bank should be filled with voluntary donation by each player.
This is the news: people will have 2 choices: use the money for themselves and buy equipment/evolve, or donate them to the "squad bank" to help their team reach the next stage. :D

In my opinion, this additional modality would avoid counting a goon-vs-naked-marine-kill just like a naked-marine-vs-tyr (+1 to next stage), which is a little unfair, and would add a easy way to teamwork.

Well, at least I hope you'll find this original ;)

Thanks for the great ideas, I will implement this on the NEW WEBSITE ASAP.

Ok, I came here clicking the link on the main page of the website, then I read the title: "tremulous development", and I probably misread the first post.

Well, THANK YOU!!!

Or you could just ignore it, and give people who do like it the pleasure of having it. Works really well!

I was wondering when fully updating Tremulous with your ideas and fixing bugs and stuff... how about making it to Tremulous 2.0?? With a brand new engine of course. The best ones would be (atleast I think) Crysis: Sandbox or Half Life 2... I know what you 're thinking: Crysis engine is way too hardware-demanding! Thats why I added HL2: It's moddable (maps and models) and would look great ^^! Altough I love the game just the way it is it's just an idea...  the HL2 isn't  tooo demanding and if u decide to go trough with it then add a poll on how many ppl play Tremulous on uberly rigged machines (for Crysis) or just go down with the tradition and go with Id Tech 4 ^^ anyways nothing much just a proposal!

the game tremulous and it's community is simply too awesome to accept any noob's hype about wishing a new episode of it. grow into 1.1 and try to hit an OM with a chaingone then cum back.

See http://bugzilla.icculus.org/show_bug.cgi?id=3105 for some of the (potentially solvable!) problems with this.

I have a thing with new engines. but the only reason HL2 has so many mods is because it has a large modding community, whereas here, not many people has the skills to do so. I only work with the Torque engine (and I got the professional version, and it aint cheap either!).

Anyways, it depends what type of source engine your talking about, because that what HL2 runs on. Now you might be like "WTF, WHUTZ DU U MEANZZ WHUT TYPEZ OV HL2 SURZE ENGUNE??"

Well, source engine was made in a way it was made by layers and components of moduals, so its possible to upgrade those moduales and make a "newer" version of the source engine without doing so much work (which is in-genius), because right now, TF2 and Portal is using (I think) Source engine 3, whoch requires more horse power then Source engine 1, which HL2 is running on.

Tremulous running on Crysis..oh god.. forget it! Unless you only want rich bastards with quad processor PCs (Like me) to run a game based on the Crysis engine, forget it. Don't talk abotu it, wait, dont even THINK about it! wait, wha? what was I typing about? I'm too lazy to read what I jjust wrote, so I'll go on.

The ID tec 4 engine (aka DOOM 3 engine) is what I would pick if I had to choose atleast one newer engine for Tremulous. Better lighting effects, Bump-mapping, per-pixel shading and shadowing, Vertex Insolating, wow, and it doesn't take as much horse power as needed, well, yea Ok, Source engine 1 uses less power, but, I don't wan to play Tremulous that feels too HL2-ish, everythign based on source is too HL2-ish (even though HL2 is awsome). They totally f***ed up Counter strike source that way.

So whats the point of this long, unnesecary reply? Id-tech 3 (Q3 engine) is the way to go, but Id-tech 4 is better to use if you want Tremulous to look more modern. There, I'm done rambling, these discussions of engines is making me hungry, cyas.

I find the current way to improve the quake3 engine by icculus.org the way to go. It is not too demanding but still there are some nice features hopping into view now and then. The only thing that should improve is the rendering of open space/long corridors. It makes the game way too laggy and should be optimized if possible with the current engine.

blah

There are 3 "modern" source engines. The half life 2 which is used by CS:S(?) and HL2. Episode 1: hl2 ep1 and hl2:dm. Episode 2: DoD:S, Portal, TF2, etc. In order to give people access to the Episode 2 engine, the person must own a game that uses it. Also, the source sdk predominately supports C++, while tremulous is coded in C. Very large portions of tremulous source code would have to be rewritten to work with the new renderer, etc. Also, steam is windows only and has questionable compatability with linux using wine. The hl2 engines have much much much higher requirements gpu wise than tremulous, which can run on almost anything. So tremulous would be no longer free, crossplatform and opensource, and would not run on lower end hardware.

There are quite a few other opensource quake based engines out there including Dark Places and Xreal, and non quake like cube2 which greatly improve graphics and are somewhat feasible alternatives to the current engine. However, porting tremulous would require a large number of man hours and a dedicated team of developers to do. Tremfusion has planned to use the xreal engine, however the current progress is questionable and they would require a good team of 3d modelers, animators, and skinners to overhaul most of tremulous's art assets. So odds of that actually working out with the current state of things is unlikely.

Idtech 4 will probably be released around a 1-3 years after the idtech5 games start coming out, however, again, many of the graphical improvements would require redoing many of tremulous art assets.

Don't forget Warsow's too. If Darkplaces and Xreal are the step from quake to doom3 rendering, Warsow's engine is the step to HL2 rendering, which is lower end (in both features and requirements, ofc).

Hey, I've noticed a bunch of stories, etc. popping up on the forums. Does anyone think now (or at least in the future) we should need a "media" section in the forums? I faintly remember Khalsa saying someone should do something like that.

Not really worth it, imo. There are like two or three mediocre stories and a horrible "webcomic". They fit just fine in General Discussion.

Agree. What about a short-story contest? I think that may contribute towards Tremulous development :P
