One thing that has recently annoyed me with regard to the website is that while trying to add a citation to the Wikpedia article I found it impossible to get a permanent link to a specific news post.

Does anyone think now (or at least in the future) we should need a "media" section in the forums?

I opt for a Tremulous Lore section.
= Same idea? :/

Forget it, anyways, about what benmachine said earlier:

I'm not familier with HTML or such, but is that an error  because of the website or what is the problem that is preventing you from doing so?

As more news is added the one he wants to link to could move to page 2.

As a request of sorts, can the developers out there point me to a website/download that contains the very old/alpha/lame/etc versions of Tremulous (And I don't mean the 1.02 version)? It would be nice to have them, because I'm interested to see how far Tremulous went from point A) to point B). Even though I'm pretty sure not everybody could play it because its required to have Q3 installed, it can serve as a historical reference.

Thank you for your understanding.  :)

I tried searching, but I got no luck. A link to the download(s) would be nice.  :)

Explore the repository and download specific revisions, there's nothing more to it... that's what SVN is made for, is perfectly intact records of every change since the CVS repo was started. Your "link" should really be a link to the Subversion manual, if that's what the issue is.

Is this for the game or the site?

If its for the game I say put in a "capture the flag" style game type. That would be fun.

I assuming your talking about this topic, this topic is for both the game and the site.

As for CTF, think about this. The aliens are faster then the humans, period. A dretch can easily capture a flag on a un-inhabited part of the map, but if the flag is nearer to the human's base to counter-act this speed, the humans can camp around the flag, with or without structures. If it was nearer to the aliens, the aliens would win more easily.

That is if it was one-flag CTF. for two flags on both bases, the only way to get to the flags without dying is to kill the structures, which is basically how a normal game goes, except you don't have to kill the entire base to get points. If the flags were movable or near a large amount of structures, there would be camping issues. If the flags were in the middle or near the base, the team defending the flag would have a hard time actually defending it, especially if they're structures are destroyed.

So, in other words, doing CTF would either be near-impossible or very difficult, as significant balance changes will have to be made, which will add to the difficulty of coding it. I suggest trying out domination on th Arcade mod, you can find the Arcade mod at Servers that specify on their names with "Arcade" in it. I suggest downloading TJW's/TremFusion/a third party client to download the mod quickly. This is assuming your new to this kinda  stuff, if not, my apologizes. Cheers.

Do you have a good documentation of the project? It can be intersting if somebody want to contribute in Tremulous.

I said to a Tremulous dev that you can use openMP for getting better performance easily in SMP machines (OS independient). You can see a parallel hello world in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenMP#Hello_World.

Idea: since  a 1.2 release has turned into a Duke Nukem Forever escapade, can the devs back a community project? There are umpteenth mappers/modellers out there, why not back a community based mod or map? Instead of being a competition, all mappers can contribute a small part to a big map. It takes minimal effort on the dev side, yet simply having authority figure(s) giving it the go ahead should be enough motivation for most mappers, and you could include it on the news (like maps such as ancient remains recieved a long time ago) the difference being that the WHOLE mapping community can create it, and the community at large can vote in features to be put into the map (e.g Do you want a statue of a cat in the human base yes:18 no:21)... what say ye?

It isn't going to happen. The devs have put a lot of work into what they've been doing. Stannum's made lots of weapons and chompers. Norf has worked hundreds of hours to try to balance it. Timbo and lots of others have spent months working on the code. You are basically saying "I don't care that they have put all this work into it. I think they aren't doing it fast enough so I vote they just give it up and humiliate themselves by supporting some crappy map I made." All you have to do is make a nice map and it will get included in 1.2. Lots of user made maps are getting included. So why the hell should they instead support some new mod that hasn't even been started? You can make your own mod if you want. You don't need to like 1.2, but you basically just completely dissed all of the work the devs have done on 1.2 for years.

You misunderstood me. I am trying to make a point that an extremely minimal effort on part of the dev team (or even just the website admin) will be motivation and praise enough to pull mappers through for a map. I would be more than happy to lead a map that WONT fail (because I have many creations :)) and build it from bits n pieces people have scrapped together. Basically it will be a community project having support not only from the community, but the site itself. Custom maps rarely get played because more often than not, people are unaware of there existance, and dont want to wade through 1000 'fun' maps to get to the nitty gritty maps... I am not putting down 1.2, I am merely stating that it would be good to give the community something to look forward to rather than waiting for years for 1.2.
