on a totaly un-related topic, where did the mg server go?
and when it gets back, it would rock to have stats on the web. is there any tool to do this? if not, send me some logs and i'll make one.

Edit:
My firewall rule curruption was truly complete :-(
I located a rule that previously forwarded bittorrent ports to an internal IP, but somehow the ports had vanished, so it forwarded ALL UDP to an internal IP.  Argh!
It has been resolved and the server should be back up, let me know if for some reason you do not see it.

There was a power outage here and when the server came back up, the firewall rules where corrupted (somehow, looked very weird) so I've been rebuilding, and the only thing I can't get to work is tremulous!

Here is the INPUT rule of iptables using iptables -L :
ACCEPT     udp  --  anywhere             66.92.134.200 udp dpt:30720
default is to drop and it is the first rule in the chain, second is the same but with tcp (cause why the hell not at this point!)

Here is the netstat output using netstat -anp --udp :
udp        0      0 66.92.134.200:30720     0.0.0.0:*                          10108/tremded.x86

I can connect from inside though! and play! to the 66.92.134.200 IP.

I can connect to other services through this same firewall with identical rules (different ports obviously).

I'm using a script that starts tremded.x86 (tjw's build) as a low level user, the same user and script I used to before I had issues and when the server was up and functioning.

#!/bin/bash
nohup ./tremded.x86 2>./serverlog.log +set dedicated 2 +set net_ip "66.92.134.200" +set fs_game base2 +exec server.cfg&
exit

Losing my mind here! Posting to the troubleshooting thread but if anyone has any ideas, I'm welcome to them.

DO NOT GO AND MAKE A FORUM SOMEWHERE...
I HAVE THE SITE.. the forums will be step one., its a click of a button to create and a little work to set up.. it will be up in not to long.. we don't need to have some random forum on some random site.
www.mercenariesguild.net
Just have patience.. Ignore belier
On that note, i'm off on vacation (on which plan to program the site), so if my forum posting is a bit more sparse than usual then thats why. Working on the site. Forums soon!.. Promise!

In case you didn't see the above edit, the server is back up now.  I also have a call into my isp about increasing my upstream bandwidth.  That may allow me to double the present user capacity to 12, though I'll run it at 16 for a while as a load test  :D

More when I hear it

Good news everyone, within 24 hours my upstream bandwidth will double to 768kbps.  I soon as I see that my bandwidth has increased, I will increase the capacity of the }MG{ server, so that is how you will know that it has taken place.

Theoretically, it should handle 13-14 people, realistically I'm hoping for between 10 and 12.  We'll see though.  It handles 6 now without serious probems (I didn't see any serious lag, certainly nothing as serious as I've seen on the more heavily populated servers!)  But if you do see bad lag, let me know.

For info on client performance tuning, check out:

I personally think the MG server should be kept to 6 or less people, so that it will be used purely for tutorials.

Not a bad idea Captain Ventris.

Additionally, I've connected a couple times and found 2 or 4 players playing a small match and requesting that noone else join so they can finish it out.  I thought the server would get almost no use due to the small capacity.  However, I think some people connect because of the small capacity.  I've played one or two small games with excelent players too, people who could clean up on normal or even large capacity servers, I think they were looking for a smaller match, instead of the bloodbath some of the larger servers have become :)  I've also seen people playing a slower paced match that simply wouldn't be possible on a larger capacity server.  I've connected to it to try out base ideas when noone, or one other person was connected.

At the same time, I don't want the server to sit empty if we are not going to be using it lots.  The 2x2 matches occur, but are not a daily occurence.  It would be nice if someone would use it when we are not.

Perhaps I could raise the public slots to 6 for 3x3 games, and increase private slots to 6 so members could always connect.  That would allow the whole group to connect at once if we wanted, allow public games, and allow room for training.

Let me know what you think people.  Reply or pm me with your thoughts if you don't want to fill the thread with this stuff.

I won't make any permanent changes until we come to a concensus, though I will be increasing it initially in the hopes that I can get enough people to connect for a type of load test.  This will be temporary though.

I think 8 is around the minumum for public server unless we use it a ton. ~16 total people is pretty good amount IMO.

We can have the MG Clan Training Server (4 people), and a 16 person MG Battle Server. Because I really want a server where I can teach people.

The training server should be 3on3 imo.
Then we can have 'real' games aswell.
A 16p MG Battle Server seems like a great idea aswell.
(Although i won't be able to actually play on it due to +150ping to American servers)
